Bhaktivedanta Vedic Library
The Vedas are the most ancient scriptures on record and widely accepted as the foundation for the oldest philosophical presentation in the world. Although there are other publications of the books you will find in this Library, we use only editions that His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada published during his lifetime.
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada was the founder of the worldwide Hare Krishna movement and responsible for spreading Vedic knowledge in the western world. He worked diligently to maintain the authenticity of the scriptures by doing word for word translating from Sanskrit to English and providing the English transliteration. His hope was that by doing so, the true meaning of each verse would remain self-evident. He advocated for the importance of studying Vedic literature using the purity of the words that were originally spoken.
The Bhaktivedanta Vedic Library was created to make this vital knowledge accessible to a modern generation. We recognize that finding time to sit down and read in today’s culture is a difficult task in and of itself, what to speak of the concentration it takes to read Vedic literature. By offering these educational readings, we hope to assist the listener in overcoming time restraints, reading disorders or even a general dislike of reading.
Just by listening, one can experience miraculous awakenings, the misconceptions of life can be relieved and new enlightenments and insights can be received. Vedic teaching began as an oral tradition and so, it is believed that there is more power in listening than reading alone. Our hope is that the listener will be able to incorporate this spiritual education into an already existent daily routine.
“If someone eagerly continues to hear such transcendental sounds, then certainly he will become freed from all material hunger, thirst, fear and lamentation, as well as all illusions of material existence.”
